1). YEAR LONG COUNTERCULTURE EXHIBITION PLANNED FOR SUMMER START
The Beat Museum is proud to announce a new Year Long Special Exhibition:
The Counterculure in America
1957 – 1967
The Decade That Defined a Nation
The Extensive Private Collection of Richard Synchef
Recently I had the great pleasure to meet someone who has a magnificent collection of counterculture memorabilia. He’s a private collector who wants to share the treasures he’s gathered over the years by showing them to the general public. His motivation is similar to ours here at The Beat Museum: He believes it’s a story worth celebrating.
To that end we will be expanding the museum to house this magnificent collection for the next year. Every month will focus on a different subset of the story.
June The Summer of Love
July & August Ken Kesey & The Merry Pranksters
September The Vietnam Era
October SF Psychedelic Music Scene
November Underground Newspapers & Comix
December Political Activism – The SDS & Weather Underground
January LP’s as a Counterculture Statement
February & March Sixties Drug Culture
April The Grateful Dead
May The Yippies & Beyond
HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED:
In order to prepare for this exciting new exhibition we’ll be hosting a "Painting Party" to spruce the place up. This will take place in the next 30-60 days (probably on a Sunday) and all you need to do to participate is send an email to say you want to help. We’ll supply all the materials and refreshments and you just show up in your work clothes "ready to roll" (get it?). Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject line "I WANNA PAINT" to tell us you’re in.
WE NEED GLASS DISPLAYS
We’re also looking for GLASS DISPLAYS we can use to house items in the special collection, preferably with LOCKS on them. We could also use some nice POSTER FRAMES. We’ve got a truck to pick everything up and some strong folks to help but we’re looking for items that are FREE or close to free. FREE is GOOD! Again, please send an email to email@example.com if you know of something we can use.
We’re very excited about bringing you this upcoming exhibition. It should really be something special!
2). CELEBRATING KEROUAC’S BIRTHDAY IN LOWELL – March 12-14
Jack’s 88th birthday is fast approaching and our good friends at "Lowell Celebrates Kerouac" will once again gather all the faithful for another wonderful weekend in Jack’s hometown. Another (David) Amram Jam, a movie screening (One Fast Move Or I’m Gone – Kerouac’s Big Sur). and a launch of a new book by Jay Atkinson ("Paradise Road: Jack Kerouac’c Lost Highway and My Search for America" ) along with good companionship and fine spirits. I say it every year because it’s true – Going to an LCK event in Lowell is like coming home to old friends and sitting in front of a warm fire. Everyone is there because they love Jack and his works and strangers are treated like family. In a word, "Go"!

3). YOUR CHANCE TO OWN ORIGINAL AUTHENTIC 3-DAY WOODSTOCK TICKETS
We have recently procured some authentic, original 3-day admission ticket to the 1969 Woodstock Music & Art Fair at Bethel, N.Y. The $24 tickets were intended for sale at the gate, but crowds so overwhelmed the festival, few were sold. And those that were sold ended up in the mud. This ticket is in mint condition and it is 100% authentic. Crisp green color with symbols to identify each day’s admission. Suitable for framing, this is a rare opportunity to purchase an authentic collectible from this legendary event.
Performers at Woodstock:
FRIDAY: Richie Havens, Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Bert Sommer, Tim Hardin, Melanie, Sweetwater, Ravi Shankar. SATURDAY: Country Joe and The Fish, Credence Clearwater Revival, John Sebastian, Quill, Sly and the Family Stone, Canned Heat, Incredible String Band, Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Janis Joplin, Santana, The Who SUNDAY: Joe Cocker, Country Joe and the Fish, Ten Years After, The Band, Mountain, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Blood Sweat and Tears, Johnny Winter, Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Sha-Na-Na, Jimi Hendrix.
